The Kunstverein Bielefeld presents the performance event ACTS OF POTENTIALITY, in cooperation with the Initiative Bielefelder Subkultur. Several artists’ interventions – by AYLA PIERROT ARENDT, JULIE BÉNA, ANJA DIETMANN, BALZ ISLER and CHARLOTTE SIMON – will take the audience to a variety of locations across the city. Using language, music and song, the artists invite you to experience social spaces in a different way, encountering cultural narratives from a new perspective.

The event is supported by the NRW Kultursekretariat Wuppertal and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW and the Kulturamt Bielefeld.

17:00 KUNSTVEREIN BIELEFELD, WELLE 61

BALZ ISLER

BACK AND FORCE, 20 min.

The works of Balz Isler (born in Switzerland in 1982, now living and working in Berlin and Hamburg) address contemporary structures of communication, specifically by investigating connections between different systems of order. In the interior courtyard of the Kunstverein, Isler will show his performance BACK AND FORCE, which combines objects, image material, and sound fragments into a medial assemblage that allows us to reflect on how we perceive art-historical subject matter in an age of digital media.

18:00 DIE ARCADE, FRIEDRICH-EBERT-STR. 4

ANJA DIETMANN

NICORETTE, 20 min.

The performance NICORETTE, by Anja Dietmann (born in Münsingen in 1982, now lives and works in Hamburg) investigates degrees of understanding and misunderstanding in language. The songs she performs, which she composes herself, are filled with wordplay and pure sound painting. In NICORETTE, Dietmann uses music, song, texts and body language to tell a number of stories, sometimes running in parallel, but sometimes coinciding, in this way giving rise to humorous contradictions.

19:00 RUDOLF-OETKER-HALLE, LAMPINGSTR. 16

JULIE BÉNA

TROUBLE, 20 min.

The work of Julie Béna (born 1982 in Paris, now lives and works in Paris and Prague) makes use of a large number of references to combine parallel times and spaces. Béna’s performances develop a series of personal cosmologies; they stage characters and objects which are consistently defined by that which they are not. In the foyer of the Rudolf Oetker Hall, she creates a narrative reflecting on concepts of transparency.

20:00 FH BIELEFELD, LAMPINGSTR. 3

AYLA PIERROT ARENDT

OCTOPUSSY on TOUR, 30 min.

OCTOPUSSY, by Ayla Pierrot Arenst (born in 1987 in Munich, now lives and works in Frankfurt am Main) designs sonic landscapes which bring together linguistic fragments, sequences of electronic music, and digital image material. Arendt’s performance makes reference to specific local places, so as to bring together experiences of differently experienced realities. The music and sound design were created in collaboration with the Berlin musician Fullruhm.

21:00 NR.Z.P., GROSSE-KURFÜRSTEN-STR. 81

CHARLOTTE SIMON
